If the Supreme Court rules in favor of same-sex marriage later this month, it could bring God's judgment barreling down on the United States of America.
That's the clear message attorneys are sending to the High Court in a brief the U.S. Justice Foundation and the law firm of William J. Olson. The groups filed the brief on behalf of Joyce Meyer Ministries, the Lincoln Institute, Public Advocate of the U.S., the Abraham Lincoln Foundation, Institute on the Constitution, Conservative Legal Defense and Education Fund and pastor Chuck Baldwin.
"Should the court require the states and the people to 'ritualize' sodomite behavior by government issuance of a state marriage license, it could bring God's judgment on the nation," the brief said. "Holy Scripture attests that homosexual behavior and other sexual perversions violate the law of the land, and when the land is 'defiled,' the people have been cast out of their homes."
The brief points to Leviticus 18:22: "You shall not lie with a man as one does with a woman. It is an abomination" and Leviticus 18:24-30:
"Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, for in these practices the nations I am casting out before you have defiled themselves. And the land has become defiled; therefore I have punished its iniquity, and the land has vomited out her inhabitants.
"But you shall therefore keep My statutes and My decrees, and you shall not commit any of these abominations, either the native citizen or any foreigner who sojourns among you (for the people of the land, who were before you, committed all of these abominations, and the land became defiled), lest the land vomit you out also when you defile it, as it vomited out the nations that were before you.
"For whoever shall commit any of these abominations, those persons who commit them shall be cut off from among their people. Therefore you shall keep My ordinances, that you do not commit any one of these abominable customs which were committed before you, so that you do not defile yourselves by them: I am the Lord your God."
Although some would assert that these rules apply only to the theocracy of ancient Israel, the brief warns that the Apostle Peter rejects that view: "For if God ... turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly" (2 Pet. 2:4-6).
The attorneys also point to the Jude 7 for justification of judgment: "Just as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the surrounding cities in like manner, gave themselves to immorality and went after different flesh, they serve as an example by suffering the punishment of eternal fire."
Their conclusion: "Whatever justification any judge may believe compels a State to define marriage to include same-sex couples, it is not found in the Constitution, nor is it based in any constitutional principle. For any judge to require a State to define marriage to include same-sex couples is an usurpation of authority that he does not have under the laws of man or God, and is thus illegal."
Do you think God's judgment will fall on this nation of the Supreme Court sanctions same-sex marriage? Sound off.
